About Us
Mariposa Studios started from an ambitious idea, to make the world a better place through theatre. Over time, that vision expanded beyond the stage and evolved into film creating stories that connect, challenge, and inspire audiences across both mediums.

FOUNDER/CREATIVE DIRECTOR/ PRODUCER
Kamilah Esther Khan is a Canadian actor, writer, and emerging producer whose work is deeply influenced by her multicultural heritage and passion for authentic storytelling.
Born in Ottawa, Canada, to an Indian-Irish father and a Mexican mother, she grew up living in a bilingual city surrounded by diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives that continue to shape her artistic voice. From an early age, performing arts became both a creative outlet as well as a means of self-expression, leading her from community theatre to a strong passion for musical theatre and acting.
Kamilah completed her undergraduate degree in acting at the University of Ottawa, where she developed her skills not just as a performer but also behind the scenes in costume design, makeup, and stage management. Her dedication to understanding every aspect of theatre and film reflects her commitment to becoming a versatile and collaborative artist.
After moving to London at the age of 21, she moved from the stage to the screen, getting her start in film acting through her role in the short film Trebellion directed by Ruby Pettengell, an experience that sparked a growing interest in screen performance, writing, and production.
Her studies at MetFilm School in London, helped develop her skills as a multidimensional storyteller and saw her branch out from acting in to writing, producing and set design.
Inspired by her filmmaking heroes, figures such as Pedro Almodóvar, Alfonso Cuarón, and Lena Dunham, she is passionate about creating emotionally honest stories that explore identity, relationships, and the experiences of marginalised communities.
Fluent in English, Spanish, and French, she aims to work across international markets and bring culturally diverse perspectives to film and television. Storytelling has the power to challenge perspectives, foster empathy, and perhaps most crucially to inspire social change. Through acting, writing, and producing, she hopes to create meaningful work that amplifies underrepresented voices while building a sustainable and impactful career in the global entertainment industry
